(updated Sept 2, 2022)

Many Boston Catholic Charismatic faithful were able to join the 1500 people celebrating the renewals 55 birthday at the Providence, FI Convention Center. Here are some photos and sharings about the event from those attending.

CHARIS is the new name selected by Pope Francis for all the expressions of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

Bishop Peter Smith, the Pope's designated leader in America, offered the closing homily on Sunday and was available to all throughout the conference.

Here are some ways the conference word moved people.

The word that resonated with me throughout the weekend was ENCOUNTER.  We are all called to have a personal relationship with Jesus.  Through personal prayer time with Jesus, we become his disciples.  We are then called to be a witness to all that we meet of Jesus's love and forgiveness that they may also encounter Him.

Bishop Andrew Cozzens stated that people can't fully encounter Jesus in the Eucharist unless they have the Holy Spirit.

How is the Holy Spirit asking us to bring Baptism of The Holy Spirit into the heart of the Church?

I encourage all that could not physically attend the conference to attend the Charis USA Virtual Conference on August 26-27!

Here are some of the CHARIS conference words that moved me.

  • Some of the most moving talks were where the speaker shared stories of faith, not preaching rules or principles. I should remember the power of shared witness when I am called to speak.
  • The CMax Media movie about Cardinal Cantalamessa's growth in the Spirit inspires me to share this video and my witness to people of my Parish and invite them to grow in the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • The Sunday panel discussion about working with youth inspired me to work with the parish youth activities group so I can relate better to the students in my faith formation class.

The three day conference in Providence was excellent.  Praise and worship time was anointed, the speakers spoke to the heart as well as the head, and the overall theme of unity was on target.  It is so refreshing and uplifting in the spirit to be part of an assembly whose sole purpose is to come together in worship for three days.  We all need a "shot" of the Holy Spirit periodically in togetherness and unity to return to our daily tasks of working in the vineyard of the Lord.  This was a great effort by the Pentecost USA Today team along with the National Service of Communion to make this conference possible.
